Perhaps the most popular subject in the category of selective disciplines can be called social studies. Students who in the future want to enroll in specialties of a natural-humanitarian or social-humanitarian nature, as well as students who do not have a desire for a particular profession, are enrolled in this OGE. Such ninth-graders choose social studies, believing that this subject is one of the simplest in the school curriculum.

Unfortunately, this OGE is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. Some tests can indeed be solved by reasoning, but most tasks will require knowledge of terminology, as well as an understanding of the legal and social features of the development of society. In addition, an important point is awareness of the structure of the KIM and the regulations of the OGE in 2018.

Dates of the OGE in social studies

It's no secret that creating a preparation schedule for the OGE is not so easy. Each subject needs to be taught according to a specific system, and rushing between several disciplines will not allow you to properly consolidate your knowledge. When scheduling your classes, remember that you will take social studies on the following days:

  • Early delivery is scheduled for April 27, 2018 (Friday). Reserve day – May 7 (Monday);
  • The main test is scheduled for June 7, 2018 (Thursday). In case of force majeure, the OGE may be postponed to June 22 (Friday);
  • The additional examination will be held on September 12, 2018 (Wednesday), and September 20 (Thursday) has been named as a reserve.

Structure and content of KIM

The thematic commission analyzed the results of previous years and came to the conclusion that this CMM does not need to be improved, so there are no plans to change its structure. When taking the exam, you will need to demonstrate a wide range of intellectual abilities: KIM tasks require the student to recognize, reproduce and extract information, classify, systematize, compare, specify, give explanations, evaluate and provide arguments in favor of his opinion.

The OGE in this subject will touch upon the theoretical foundations of the modern social structure, the sphere of social activity, the basic institutions of management, the individual and his social qualities, economic phenomena and processes, the political and legal structure of the state, and will also test the student’s skills that should make him a full-fledged citizen.


OGE in social studies covers a number of disciplines, including political science, sociology, law, as well as the science of economic processes

A significant part of the assignments is based on sociological research, popular science and socio-philosophical publications, excerpts from regulatory documents, as well as media reports. When assessing the answer form, members of the examination committee will check:

  • the ability to describe objects of a social nature (with an emphasis on their main qualities and characteristics);
  • understanding the essence and role of a person from the point of view of his social and active qualities;
  • the ability to conduct a comparative assessment of objects of a social nature, understanding the relationships and ways in which interaction occurs between man and nature, the individual and society as a whole, the individual citizen and the state;
  • knowledge of various objects of society, orientation in various types of human activity and relationships implemented in the social sphere;
  • the ability to explain human behavior from the point of view of moral and ethical standards, social and economic approaches;
  • the ability to apply knowledge in practice by solving practice-oriented and cognitive problems;
  • skills in searching and organizing information.

If we talk about the main sections included in the KIM OGE, then the greatest attention should be paid to:

  • society, its interaction with nature, the main relationships realized in various spheres of social life, as well as the peculiarities of their manifestation;
  • qualities of man and personality as a biological and social being, concepts of work, play and learning, interpersonal relationships and conflicts;
  • spiritual life and its characteristics, the role of scientific activity, education and religious norms in the structure and functioning of society, the concepts of freedom of conscience, moral standards and patriotism, humanistic views and the institution of citizenship;
  • the role of economics in social life, as well as the following terms: resources, needs, property rights, production, trading activities and market;
  • entrepreneurship, monetary relations, tax system, goals and functions of the state in pursuing economic policy;
  • the social structure of modern society, family relationships, values, relationships and conflicts of a social and international nature;
  • politics and its role in public life, functions and parties, as well as forms of government regimes;
  • the role of law, the concept of legal violation, types of liability;
  • The Constitution of the Russian Federation, its content, the state structure of the country, branches and systems of government, the responsibilities and freedoms of citizens, as well as the mechanisms by which human rights are realized.

High-quality preparation will allow a student to solve 31 tasks in 180 minutes

OGE in social studies is 31 tasks. On the ticket they are all divided into two parts:

  • the first part – 25 tasks. Numbers 1 to 20 are tests in which the student only needs to make a choice from the proposed answers. Answers to tasks numbered 21-25 are a series of sequentially indicated numbers. Basically, the first part tests knowledge in sections devoted to man and society, the concept of spiritual culture, economic activity, social sphere, politics, social management and legal activity. Correctly solving all the tasks will earn the ninth-grader 26 points (or 66.7% of all points for the exam).
  • second part – 6 tasks. In this part, students will have to formulate and write answers independently, analyzing the text. For correctly solving problems from the second part, you will receive another 13 points (or 33.3% of all KIM points).

In total, you can score 39 points for social studies. CMM can be solved within 180 minutes. The regulations of this OGE do not provide for any additional subjects or reference materials and aids.

On what scale will the scores be recalculated?

Points scored for solving a social studies test are converted into a grade according to the following scheme:

  • “unsatisfactory” is given to students who scored from 0 to 14 points;
  • “satisfactory” – a mark for knowledge that allows you to get from 15 to 24 points;
  • “good” – a score given for 25-33 points;
  • “Excellent” is awarded for work in which the student was able to score from 34 to 39 points.

The selection of students for training in specialized classes is made among children who have earned 30 points and above in social studies.

A key element of democracy is the full rights of citizens.

The common definition of democracy reduces it to regular elections held on a fair basis with strict vote counting. Although periodic elections are very important for a democratic system, they merely allow citizens to choose one of the policies proposed by political parties. In the period between elections, citizens can influence public policy through other institutions: interest groups, social movements, trade unions, etc. All these forms are integral parts of democratic practice.

Another generally accepted indicator of democracy is the rule of the majority. Any governing body that makes decisions by a relative majority of votes is democratic - whether we are talking about an electoral district, parliament, committee, city council or party meeting.

However, a problem arises here too. What if the legally elected majority regularly discriminates against a minority (for example, a cultural or ethnic group)? In such cases, successful democracies usually combine the principle of majority rule with the protection of minority rights.

Today, this scenario is being actively discussed in parliamentary circles. What are the reasons for these innovations, and what else can they entail?

Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Rosobrnadzor are determined to take the path of stricter control over the educational system. This is due to the fact that officials have to observe a decrease in student motivation and interest in teenagers mastering the school curriculum: for example, in 2014, after the cancellation of two compulsory selective subjects, the number of schoolchildren who expressed a desire and readiness to write an examination paper in social studies decreased from 41% to 9%!   3. Teachers will lose the opportunity to participate in the development of CMMs (testing and measuring materials). This will be done by 11 specially established federal commissions and 150 educational professionals representing them.

The early session of the OGE in social studies will take place on April 27, 2018 (Friday), while its main stage will take place on June 7 (Thursday). At the same time, the reserve days for writing the work are scheduled for May 7 (Monday) and June 22 (Friday), respectively - these dates are necessary for those who, due to force majeure, will be unable to pass the certification at the specified time. The retake is scheduled for September 12 (Wednesday) and September 20 (Thursday). These numbers will be the last opportunity for graduates to prove that they completed the high school course with at least a “satisfactory” grade. What happens if an additional test attempt fails? In this case, the student will not receive a certificate and, even moreover, will linger within the walls of the educational institution to repeat the program for the second round.

Important! It is planned that from 2018 a graduate will have the right to retake only 2 works. If he fails 3 or more subjects the first time, he will remain in school for another year.

Rules for retaking a retake

A student who does not achieve the initial threshold score for a “satisfactory” grade will need to return to the exam site to take his second attempt. The student will become aware that this will still have to be done a maximum of 10-12 days after writing the work - that’s when the test results will come to the school. You will not need to take anything with you except your passport. Similar provisions apply to some other guys, namely those who:

  1. I was unable to attend the exam or complete it due to poor health, as well as due to any other documented circumstances.

Many examinees give preference to social studies, mistakenly believing that this subject is the most universal and one of the easiest to pass in 9th grade. In fact, this is not entirely true - if some tasks can indeed be solved through logical reasoning, then in some issues it is impossible to do without knowledge of the terms and understanding of the social and legal processes occurring within society.

The criteria for assessing the OGE in social studies in 2018 will remain unchanged.
