We will talk about residential and factory buildings, shopping centers, airports, stadiums and other world record holders.

The Izmailovo Hotel in Moscow has held the palm among the largest hotels in the world for more than thirty years. This complex of five 30-story buildings has 7,500 rooms and is designed to simultaneously accommodate 15 thousand people. It was opened in 1980 for the Moscow Olympics.

The New South China Mall opened in 2005 only to close its doors within months. The huge building, with an area of 659,612 square meters and designed for 2,500 shops, turned out to be unnecessary for residents of the poor and relatively small city of Dongguan, which by Chinese standards has a population of ten million. Now it is mothballed in anticipation of population growth and living standards in the metropolis.

The Boeing Corporation has the largest factory building in the world. Its plant in Everett, near Seattle, has an area of 399,480 square meters. In addition to assembly shops, the building houses several catering establishments, an aviation museum, a souvenir shop and even its own theater.

It is unlikely that the people who built a huge hangar for airships in 1938, 60 kilometers from Berlin, suspected that they were creating the basis for the world's largest entertainment center. However, it was here, in a building that had been empty for several decades, that the Tropical Islands Resort water park was opened in 2005. The total area of this structure is 70 thousand square meters.

In 2012, the largest and tallest residential building in the world was commissioned in Dubai. The height of the 101-story Princess Tower skyscraper is 414 meters, and the total area is 171,175 sq.m. There are 763 apartments and 957 parking spaces for residents and guests of the building.

The Istana Nurul Iman residence has 1,788 halls and rooms, three times more than that of the Queen of England. The total area of the building is about 200 thousand square meters.

The May Day Stadium in the North Korean capital Pyongyang holds several records. For example, this is the largest stadium in the world, because 150 thousand spectators can gather in its stands at the same time. This arena also regularly hosts the Arirang music and gymnastics show, which has a record number of participants. It is believed that about 100 thousand people are involved in this performance with a patriotic theme.

When they talk about the largest houses on the planet, they are usually divided into record holders in terms of volume (the largest buildings) and area (the most spacious). Today we bring to your attention the second category of Towers of Babel, with a record-breaking large floor space. Considering the development and popularity of air communications and international tourism, it is not difficult to guess that the most spacious houses are airports and hotels. But there are exceptions; military men and traders also like it when there is a lot. However, about everything and everyone - in order.

The Grand Prix in the “Gigantomania” nomination is rightly awarded Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport. Everything that the Indians and Pakistanis build for the rich Arabians is amazing in scale and luxury. Terminal 3 opened in October 2008 at a cost of $4.5 billion and covers an area of 1.5 million square meters (or 150 hectares). This, for comparison, is 5 times larger than the Moscow Kremlin. Inside the terminal there are 82 moving walks, 97 escalators, and 157 elevators.

Every day many thousands of flowers from all over the world are brought here and sold here. Every second bouquet purchased in the underground passage comes from here.

Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 3 with an area of 986 thousand m2, they built it specifically for the 2008 Olympics. Its construction and filling cost China 3.5 billion US dollars. The terminal is connected to the metro, which takes about 20 minutes to reach the center of the Chinese capital. According to the architects, from the sky the new terminal looks like a red fiery dragon, but many observers admit that the shape of the building is more reminiscent of a girl’s heavily stretched thong panties.

Hotel-casino Venetian in the city of Macau, the gambling capital of Asia, has 40 floors with a simply indecent level of luxury. Venetian offers millionaires 3,000 multi-room suites, 3,400 slot machines, and 800 gambling tables. This is the largest hotel in Eurasia, one night in which costs at least $180, which is not so expensive for such luxury.

In Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) there is a complex of American-style skyscrapers (203 meters in height), with an area of 700 thousand m2. This “city within a city” is considered the most massive building built “in one go.” Inside Berjaya Times Square there are two five-star hotels, a huge shopping center and an amusement park, residential residences and offices.

The hotel and casino is owned by the American Automobile Association (AAA, not to be confused with Batteries and Alconauts Anonymous). Area - 645 thousand square meters. The Pentagon's perimeter is one and a half kilometers, and there are 7,754 windows in its five above-ground floors.

Object K-25 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee - the 8th largest building in the world by total area (60 hectares), a former uranium enrichment plant. K-25 was built simultaneously with the Pentagon and is designed for 12 thousand jobs. In 1987, the K-25 facility was officially closed; work on the deconstruction and disinfection of the nuclear plant continues to this day, because this is a complex and dreary task, but it still needs to be done.

Hong Kong International Airport ranks 9th and 570 thousand m 2. Among local residents it is known under the exotic name Chek Lap Kok. This is one of the busiest airports in the world in terms of passenger and cargo traffic; it has repeatedly won prizes as the best airport in the world. The $20 billion airport was built on an artificial island in 1998 and is still considered China's main air gateway.

And in 10th place in the ranking of unusually spacious buildings is another Asian miracle. This is the airport again and it's called . Location: Bangkok town. Area – 56.3 hectares. Humanity has always strived to overcome existing boundaries. For example, once a skyscraper appears that claims to be the “tallest building in the world,” a few years later an even taller structure appears. So far, the one kilometer mark has not been crossed, but the only thing left to do is wait for the completion of the Burj Al Mamlak high-rise building.

And we present a list from which you will find out how many floors are in the tallest building in the world.

We did not include antenna masts, concrete masts, chimneys and other technical structures in the list.

Location: Hong Kong

Hong Kong, in addition to its highly developed economy and high standard of living, is famous for its record number of skyscrapers. In total, there are 316 buildings in the metropolis, whose height exceeds 150 meters. But none of them compares to the majestic building of the World Trade Center.

Initially, the project for its creation provided for a height of 574 meters, but it had to be “cut down”, since buildings whose height exceeds the surrounding mountains cannot be built in the city.

Most of the floors of the center are reserved for offices, but at its top (from the 118th to 102nd floor inclusive) there is a five-star hotel, the rooms of which offer wonderful views of Hong Kong, especially at dawn and sunset.

For comparison: - MFC "Federation" - reaches a height of 373.7 meters.

Location: Shanghai, China

This high-rise building is only 16 meters lower than number eight on the list of tallest buildings in the world. Due to the shape of the building, it is called a "bottle opener".

The foundation stone of the skyscraper was laid in 1997, but due to the financial crisis in Asia, the project was frozen, and construction resumed only in 2003. The center was completely ready by 2008.

Initially, they wanted to make not a rectangular, but a round hole in the upper part of the building, symbolizing the sky and reducing the wind load on the building, but the designers decided that with a rectangular hole it would be cheaper and easier to implement the project.

8. Taipei 101 – 509 meters

Location: Taipei, Taiwan

It was the tallest skyscraper in the world between 2004 and 2007. It is named after its location and the number of floors in the building.

In addition, Taipei 101 is the first skyscraper in the world to reach a height of half a kilometer, and no one will take this title away from it.

The building's design is inspired by traditional Chinese architecture and is shaped like a pagoda.

Since the building is located in a place where earthquakes and strong winds are common, its creators provided protection from natural disasters by providing the skyscraper with an external frame and an internal damper. This is a 660-ton ball made of 41 steel plates. It is suspended by eight steel cables, supported by eight shock absorbers and can move 1.5 meters in any direction. This is the largest and heaviest damper in the world.

The striking design of Taipei 101 won the 2004 Emporis Award for Best Skyscraper.

The elevators in this high-rise are among the fastest in the world, rising at a speed of 1,010 meters per minute (60.48 km/h) and descending at a speed of 610 m/min (36.6 km/h). It is also interesting that the Chinese skyscraper is one of the few buildings in the world equipped with two-story elevators.

Location: Guangzhou, China

The seventh largest skyscraper in the world houses office space, a hotel, residential apartments and a shopping mall.

Two of the 86 elevators installed in the Chinese high-rise can rise at speeds of 70-72.4 km/h or 19.4-20.1 m/sec. These are the fastest elevators in the world. However, they descend twice as slow as they rise.

The streamlined shape of the building practically eliminates the impact of air flows on it.

Location: New York

The tallest skyscraper in the Big Apple, also known as the Freedom Tower, was built on the site of the former World Trade Center, which was attacked by al-Qaeda terrorists on September 11, 2001.

The new building's height of 1,776 feet (541 meters) is a reference to the year the United States Declaration of Independence was signed.

The creators of the tower took into account the sad experience gained during the evacuation of victims from the previous World Trade Center.

  • There is now a shelter on every floor of WTC 1, while the elevators are located in a secure central tier of the building that serves all floors of the tower.
  • The building also has an emergency staircase designed for firefighters, fire protection has been significantly improved, and the air supply system includes chemical and biological filters.
  • The 57-meter base of the structure is made of monolithic concrete, and to avoid a heavy appearance, the architects “equipped” the façade of WTC 1 with blue prismatic glass blocks. They shimmer beautifully and sparkle under the sun's rays.

On the territory of World Trade Center 1, in the place where the twin towers were located, there is a Memorial in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack. We also have a museum dedicated to the events of 11/11.

Location: Seoul, South Korea

The tallest buildings in the world now have a brand new, one might say brand new, skyscraper built in 2017. It is the tallest in South Korea.

The foundation stone of the tower was laid in 2005, but then construction slowed down due to the fact that the future skyscraper was located near the airport and was subject to height restrictions. These restrictions were lifted in 2010, and the construction site was “reopened.”

Lotte has one of the best aquariums in all of Asia, where you can even touch some of the sea life, and there are also many interesting shops, including the Studio Ghibli store (released My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke and many other anime)

The Russians made their own, albeit useless, but amusing contribution to the history of the Lotte Tower. Two Russian photographers climbed to the top of a crane and took video of a skyscraper under construction.

Location: Shenzhen, China

Initially, it was decided to build a skyscraper 660 meters high. Thus, he had to surpass the current Chinese leader - Shanghai Tower. But aviation ruined everything. In order not to interfere with the flights of airplanes and other helicopters, the antenna was removed from the plan, thereby reducing the height of the building to the current 599 meters.

1.7 thousand tons of high-quality stainless steel were used on the façade of the building. This material will allow the tower to maintain its aesthetic appearance longer, even taking into account the salty coastal atmosphere of the city.

3. Royal Clock Tower (Abraj al-Bayt) – 601 meters

Location: Mecca, Saudi Arabia

The beautiful building, decorated with glass mosaics, is one of the new symbols of Mecca.

At the top of the skyscraper there is a giant tetrahedral clock, the dial of which is the largest in the world. Its dimensions are 45 by 43 meters and are comparable to the size of a small football field. This dial is visible from a distance of 12 meters during the day and 17 meters at night.

The tower houses a luxury hotel that hosts pilgrims who come to see the wonders of the Muslim holy city.

The skyscraper is part of the Abraj al-Bayt towers complex, which is considered the largest structure in terms of mass on Earth and the tallest in Saudi Arabia.

Location: Shanghai, China

If you ask a Chinese resident what the tallest building in the world is, he will probably name the pride of his country - the Shanghai Tower.

It has the world's highest indoor observation deck and is also the tallest building in China.

The tower spirals upward, this design allows you to compensate for the influence of wind at high altitudes.

Brave Russian extreme sports enthusiasts (the same ones who climbed the Lotte Tower) entered the skyscraper construction site and made a video about it, which gained over 66 million views over the course of several years.

Be careful, you may be afraid of heights while watching!

1. Burj Khalifa – 828 meters

Location: Dubai, UAE

Here is the answer to the question of how many floors are in the tallest skyscraper in the world. There are exactly 163 of them. This was enough for luxury residential apartments (there are about 900 of them) and for a hotel with 304 rooms and for offices of various companies. There are also three underground garages that can accommodate 3,000 cars at a time.

From the windows of the tower there is a stunning view of the turquoise waters of the artificial lake at the foot of the skyscraper. On this lake there is a unique fountain, equipped with 6,000 light sources and with jets shooting to a height of 150 meters. All this unforgettable spectacle is accompanied by musical accompaniment.

Although the building's shape is similar to the Willis Tower tubular tower concept, it is structurally different and is not technically a tubular structure. The outlines of the foundation give rise to associations with the desert pancrat flower. This was done not for the sake of beauty, but to facilitate the construction of a building whose height exceeds several hundred meters.

And the façade cladding system is designed to withstand Dubai's extreme summer temperatures.

The building rests on a concrete and steel podium with 192 piles descending to a depth of more than 50 meters

At first they decided to call the skyscraper Burj Dubai. But during the grand opening ceremony of the building, it was renamed Burj Khalifa, in honor of the President of the UAE, Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

The world's tallest building in the future - Burj al Mamlaka (1000 m)

However, the Burj Khalifa will not be called the tallest skyscraper on Earth for long. In 2020, the construction of the Jeddah Tower (Burj al Mamlak), which is as much as 1 kilometer high, should be completed. The initiator of the ambitious project is Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who is the nephew of the King of Saudi Arabia.

Adrian Smith, who oversaw the construction of the Burj Khalifa, was chosen as the architect.

In October 2017, 56 of the tower's 167 planned floors were completed.
