We remember, we are proud of “heroes of the Soviet Union N.A.” Vilkov, P.I.

VILKOVNIKOLAY ALEXANDROVICH

N. A. Vilkov was born on December 9, 1918 in the village of Ilinskoye (the village is located opposite Navolok on the left, Trans-Volga bank).

From an early age, Nikolai was attracted by the Volga, and he spent whole days on the river. After school, he worked for some time at the Privolzhskaya Kommuna textile mill, then graduated from the Gorky River Technical School and began driving ships on the Volga and Yenisei. On the Angara he sailed on a steamship as the first mate, from here in 1939 he was drafted into the Pacific Fleet. In his service he was the first - the best boatswain of the association, an excellent athlete.

During the Great Patriotic War, N. Vilkov served on the restless, stormy Sea of Okhotsk as a boatswain of a sea hunter - that’s what torpedo boats were called.

In the period from August 18 to September 1, 1945, during the war with Japan, troops of the 2nd Far Eastern and Pacific Fronts carried out the Kuril landing operation - an assault on the Japanese rocky, inaccessible island of Syumushu (Shumshu), the northernmost of the islands of the Kuril ridge. The Japanese considered the island their forward bastion, a springboard for an attack on the Soviet Union: the Russian shores were just a stone's throw away - so a lot of artillery and tanks were concentrated on the island, and most importantly, the embrasures of enemy pillboxes and bunkers were visible from all the cracks.

The landing force of the first throw, consisting of marines and volunteer sailors, was supposed to capture a bridgehead on the island - height 171, to ensure the landing of the main forces. One of the platoons of the airborne company was commanded by foreman 1st class N. Vilkov.

August 18 at exactly 4 o'clock. 20 min. The torpedo boats approached the landing site, and, thanks to surprise and the cover of the main caliber guns from the ships, the paratroopers went ashore without losses, broke through the first line of defense (wire barriers were cut with scissors, the minefield was cleared using hand grenades) and began to make their way to the heights. A powerful two-embrasure pillbox, well camouflaged by thickets, stood in their way as a deadly barrier.

Calling fire from the ship would take a long time, and yet every minute of delay cost several lives. Vilkov made a decision: to quietly get within 20 meters of the pillbox and throw grenades at it. With grenades in both hands, he crawled towards the pillbox, followed by sailor Pyotr Ilyichev, his friend.

Dot is already nearby. Vilkov stood up and threw the grenade with force. One machine gun fell silent. But a moment before the explosion, Nikolai’s left shoulder burned like boiling water - his hand hung helplessly, and the grenade fell from his unclenched palm. The smoke from the explosion of the first grenade had barely cleared when both machine guns started firing again. Reaching with his good hand to the fallen grenade, Nikolai, lying down, threw it into the embrasure. Almost simultaneously another shot rang out - it was Ilyichev who acted.

The paratroopers got up and ran forward, believing that the pillbox was finished. But the machine guns came to life again. And then Nikolai Vilkov stood up to his full height and, seriously wounded, walked straight towards him and leaned his chest onto the embrasure. Ilyichev covered the second embrasure with his body.

The machine guns fell silent. This time it's final. The landing party rushed upward.

When the battle ended, at the reclaimed height, the bloody banner, pierced by bullets, which was taken out from under the vest of Nikolai Vilkov, was strengthened on the pole... He died on August 18, 1945.

After the successful completion of the Kuril landing operation, the three most distinguished formations were given the honorary name Kuril , several formations and ships were awarded orders, and nine paratroopers were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Among them were Petty Officer 1st Article Nikolai Aleksandrovich Vilkov and sailor P.I. Ilyichev (awarded posthumously, Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated September 14, 1945).

Streets in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Vladivostok, Gorky, Irkutsk, and Zavolzhsk are named after Nikolai Vilkov. A cape in Kamchatka and a motor ship plying along the Angara are named after him. A monument to the hero was erected on the territory of the shipbuilding plant in Irkutsk, and in the Museum of Military Glory of the Irkutsk Garrison an exhibition tells about the hero.

One of the Soviet postage stamps is dedicated to the feat of Nikolai Vilkov, its size is 10x15cm (the author of the stamp is the artist A.V. Zavyalov). On a gray-blue background is the embrasure of an enemy pillbox, with fire bursting from it. Sergeant Major Vilkov rushed towards him in a courageous rush. His portrait is in the center of the stamp.

Nikolai Alexandrovich Vilkov(December 9, Ilyinskoye village, Zavolzhsky district, Ivanovo region - August 18) - Soviet military sailor, petty officer of the first article, Hero of the Soviet Union.

Biography

Nikolai Aleksandrovich Vilkov was born into a Russian peasant family.

Excerpt characterizing Vilkov, Nikolai Alexandrovich

– Andre! - Princess Marya said pleadingly.
“Il faut que vous sachiez que c"est une femme, [Know that this is a woman," Andrei said to Pierre.
– Andre, au nom de Dieu! [Andrey, for God’s sake!] – repeated Princess Marya.
It was clear that Prince Andrei’s mocking attitude towards the wanderers and Princess Mary’s useless intercession on their behalf were familiar, established relationships between them.
“Mais, ma bonne amie,” said Prince Andrei, “vous devriez au contraire m"etre reconaissante de ce que j"explique a Pierre votre intimate avec ce jeune homme... [But, my friend, you should be grateful to me that I explain to Pierre your closeness to this young man.]
- Vraiment? [Really?] - Pierre said curiously and seriously (for which Princess Marya was especially grateful to him) peering through his glasses into the face of Ivanushka, who, realizing that they were talking about him, looked at everyone with cunning eyes.
Princess Marya was completely in vain to be embarrassed for her own people. They were not at all timid. The old woman, with her eyes downcast but looking sideways at those who entered, had turned the cup upside down onto a saucer and placed a bitten piece of sugar next to it, sat calmly and motionlessly in her chair, waiting to be offered more tea. Ivanushka, drinking from a saucer, looked at the young people from under his brows with sly, feminine eyes.
– Where, in Kyiv, were you? – Prince Andrey asked the old woman.
“It was, father,” the old woman answered loquaciously, “on Christmas itself, I was honored with the saints to communicate the holy, heavenly secrets.” And now from Kolyazin, father, great grace has opened...
- Well, Ivanushka is with you?
“I’m going on my own, breadwinner,” said Ivanushka, trying to speak in a deep voice. - Only in Yukhnov did Pelageyushka and I get along...
Pelagia interrupted her comrade; she obviously wanted to tell what she saw.
- In Kolyazin, father, great grace was revealed.
- Well, are the relics new? - asked Prince Andrei.
“That’s enough, Andrey,” said Princess Marya. - Don’t tell me, Pelageyushka.
“No...what are you saying, mother, why not tell me?” I love him. He is kind, favored by God, he, a benefactor, gave me rubles, I remember. How I was in Kyiv and the holy fool Kiryusha told me - a truly man of God, he walks barefoot winter and summer. Why are you walking, he says, not in your place, go to Kolyazin, there is a miraculous icon, the Mother of the Most Holy Theotokos has been revealed. From those words I said goodbye to the saints and went...
Everyone was silent, one wanderer spoke in a measured voice, drawing in air.
“My father, the people came and said to me: great grace has been revealed, the Mother of the Most Holy Theotokos is dripping myrrh from her cheek...
“Okay, okay, you’ll tell me later,” said Princess Marya, blushing.
“Let me ask her,” said Pierre. -Have you seen it yourself? he asked.
- Why, father, you yourself have been honored. There is such a radiance on the face, like heavenly light, and from my mother’s cheek it keeps dripping and dripping...
“But this is a deception,” said Pierre naively, who listened attentively to the wanderer.
- Oh, father, what are you saying! - Pelageyushka said with horror, turning to Princess Marya for protection.
“They are deceiving the people,” he repeated.
- Lord Jesus Christ! – the wanderer said, crossing herself. - Oh, don't tell me, father. So one anaral did not believe it, he said: “the monks are deceiving,” and as he said, he became blind. And he dreamed that Mother of Pechersk came to him and said: “Trust me, I will heal you.” So he began to ask: take me and take me to her. I’m telling you the real truth, I saw it myself. They brought him blind straight to her, he came up, fell, and said: “Heal! “I will give you,” he says, “what the king gave you.” I saw it myself, father, the star was embedded in it. Well, I have received my sight! It's a sin to say that. “God will punish,” she instructively addressed Pierre.
- How did the star end up in the image? asked Pierre.
- Did you make your mother a general? - said Prince Andrei, smiling.
Pelagia suddenly turned pale and clasped her hands.
- Father, father, it’s a sin for you, you have a son! - she spoke, suddenly turning from pallor to bright color.
- Father, what did you say that, God forgive you. - She crossed herself. - Lord, forgive him. Mother, what is this?...” she turned to Princess Marya. She stood up and, almost crying, began to pack her purse. She was obviously both scared and ashamed that she had enjoyed benefits in a house where they could say this, and it was a pity that she now had to be deprived of the benefits of this house.
- Well, what kind of hunting do you want? - said Princess Marya. -Why did you come to me?...
“No, I’m joking, Pelageyushka,” said Pierre. - Princesse, ma parole, je n"ai pas voulu l"offenser, [Princess, I'm right, I didn't want to offend her,] I just did that. Don’t think I was joking,” he said, smiling timidly and wanting to make amends. - After all, it’s me, and he was only joking.
Pelageyushka stopped incredulously, but Pierre's face showed such sincerity of repentance, and Prince Andrei looked so meekly first at Pelageyushka, then at Pierre, that she gradually calmed down.

3. The feat of heroes.

N Ikolay Vilkov and Pyotr Ilyichev served in the Pacific Fleet. The first was already an experienced sailor, had the rank of petty officer of the 1st article, served as a boatswain of the floating base "Sever" of the Petropavlovsk naval base, the second was called up for active service only at the end of 1944 and was the helmsman of the patrol boat SK-253 of the 6th division patrol ships of the Petropavlovsk naval base. But it so happened that at the beginning of the war with Japan both ended up in the same Marine battalion, in the company of Senior Lieutenant Kashchei. Vilkov was a platoon commander, Ilyichev in this platoon was an ordinary Red Navy man.

On August 9, 1945, the Soviet Union, true to its allied obligations, entered the war with Japan.

In the very first days of the fighting, the Red Army dealt decisive blows to the enemy in Manchuria and Sakhalin, and thus favorable conditions were created for the liberation of the Kuril Islands, truly Russian lands captured by Japan at different times.

On the night of August 17, 1945, Soviet warships with a landing party left their base and headed for the shores of Shumshu Island, the northernmost in the Kuril ridge. This landing also included a battalion of marines. And the next day the landing of troops on Shumshu began. This island was the main stronghold of the Kuril Islands. On the island, the Japanese had an infantry brigade, 60 tanks, an air defense regiment, a fortress artillery regiment, and various special units and units. The island was fortified with engineering structures - numerous pillboxes.

In the group of the first rush there was a platoon of the communist foreman of the 1st article Nikolai Vilkov. Because of the shallows, the ships were unable to approach the shore. Under enemy fire, the paratroopers threw themselves into the water and waded to the shore. Without allowing the enemy to come to his senses, the sailors quickly attacked the coastal fortifications and captured a bridgehead. Under the cover of naval artillery, the main landing forces entered the battle. During the battle, an enemy counterattack was repulsed and 8 Japanese tanks were destroyed.

The battle for Hill 171 became especially fierce. This was a key position for the Japanese. At the top, the enemy built a reinforced concrete pillbox with two embrasures. In addition, the height was surrounded by a network of trenches with numerous machine-gun points.

The sailors stormed the heights. Despite heavy losses, they stubbornly moved forward. Vilkov’s platoon was in the vanguard here too. Next to the platoon commander is Ilyichev. He skillfully wielded a machine gun and grenades and came to the rescue of his comrades in time.

The company was already preparing for the last throw, when at the top of the height a double embrasure pillbox began to speak. Its powerful fire pinned the sailors to the ground. Several brave souls rushed forward and were mowed down by enemy fire...

And then the paratroopers saw the commander himself crawl to the right embrasure. He threw a grenade, but it did not reach the target. Then Vilkov rose to his full height and threw his body at the embrasure of the pillbox. She fell silent...

And the left embrasure continued to rain lead rain on the paratroopers. Komsomol member Ilyichev was wounded and ran out of grenades. The machine's disk was also empty. And in front of his comrades’ eyes, he stands up to his full height and covers the left embrasure of the pillbox with his body. Dot finally choked. The sailors rushed to the top of the height in an uncontrollable avalanche. The Red Banner hoisted on it.

On August 23, Shumshu Island was completely liberated. More than 12 thousand Japanese soldiers were captured. And soon the entire Kuril ridge was in the hands of Soviet soldiers.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Nikolai Aleksandrovich Vilkov and Pyotr Ivanovich Ilyichev were posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
