The Great Wall of China is 8,851.9 km long! In total, it was built over 19 (!) centuries (from the 3rd century BC to the mid-17th century), and, undoubtedly, today it is the longest and most grandiose architectural structure in the world. Also, other incredibly long buildings have been created on earth by human hands, among which I would like to note the Kumbhalgarh fortress in India (length 36 thousand meters), Fort Ranikot in Pakistan (length 8.6 thousand meters), and the Kremlin wall in Moscow (length 2235 meters). As you can see, all these structures are defensive in nature. But among scientific institutions, office and residential buildings there are also record holders. In this article we will tell you about the longest house in Moscow.

In the capital of Russia, at 125 Varshavskoe Highway, there is a “recumbent skyscraper”. This is what Muscovites jokingly call this house, which is 978 meters long! If you put the building vertically, you get 390 floors and a small attic! A grandiose recumbent high-rise building. Undoubtedly, today this is the longest house in Moscow.

This building houses the office and production facilities of one of the country's oldest enterprises for the development of open source computer hardware components. The legal name of the developer is JSC NICEVT. It was founded back in 1948 on the basis of the design bureau, whose employees assembled the first Soviet computer, Strela. Secret developments of space on-board computers were carried out at the Scientific Research Center; it was also the research center of electronic computer technology that was tasked with creating a unified computer system at all Soviet factories. The Scientific Research Center coped with this task with honor. In the 1990s, the latest models of domestic computers - ES-1181 and SEVM-1195 - appeared within the walls of this institute. And today the best minds of the country work here, creating advanced technologies that are not inferior in technical characteristics, speed and quality to foreign analogues. Let's take a look at the house itself, where NICEVT is based.

History of construction

Initially, the Research Center was located in several buildings:

  • on the territory of the Moscow SAM plant (2400 sq. m.),
  • on the territory of the design bureau (KBPA) on Entuziastov highway (1000 sq. m.),
  • on Warsaw Highway in the building of the NIISCHETMASH kindergarten with an area of 1600 sq. m.

The total number of employees scattered across different territories was 900 people. But gradually the volume of work and the number of employees increased. Therefore, in 1969, it was decided to build a single building to house all the resources of the Research Center - production and human - on one area. For this purpose, a plot of 76 hectares was allocated on Varshavskoye Highway.

Construction of the building proceeded quickly. In 1970, a boiler house appeared here, the task of which in the future was to heat the Research Center, but its capacity was enough to heat the entire Chertanovo industrial zone and two schools. In 1972, the main production building, power unit and canteen appeared. In 1975, the first two buildings of the basic laboratory began work.

In 1975, launched a basic laboratory located in two buildings. Like everything made in the USSR, the “recumbent high-rise” in Moscow was built to last.

Not distinguished by any special architectural delights and having a typical appearance, this house amazes with the scale of construction:

  • The 6-story building on the front side has 236 windows on each floor! That is, there are almost 1650 windows on the front side of the building!
  • this incredibly long building stretches across three whole bus stops: “Varshavskoye Shosse” - next to the southern part of the building, “Social Protection Administration” - opposite the main entrance to the Research Center, “Trading Complex” - near the northern end of the building.

Employees sometimes need to take a bus to go from one department to another in the same building... The scale is impressive.
It is very difficult to even photograph such a long house in its entirety. But it is clearly visible from a bird's eye view.

Today, the area of the longest building in Moscow, owned by NICEVT, is partly used by the research center itself, and partly rented out for production, warehouses and offices. If a visitor does not know exactly in which room or on which floor the company renting space in the “recumbent skyscraper” at 125 Warsaw Highway is located, then it can take a whole day to find it!

In second place is the longest residential building in Moscow, located at Grizodubova Street, 4. This house is part of the architectural ensemble of the Grand Park residential complex and is more than 700 meters long. The building is an entire unit, but for ease of postal identification it is divided into four buildings.

Although, according to the tradition of domestic numbering of residential buildings, a separate number is assigned to a house that faces the street, and buildings are numbered for those buildings that do not have direct access to the street, but only to the courtyard. In the case of the Grizodubov house, this rule is violated, but the exceptional length of the residential building should be taken into account.

Another contender

In the capital, on Rimsky-Korsakovo Street, there is an amazing building, which many consider the longest residential building in the city. Its length is truly amazing - 1100 meters! People call this building the “Moscow Chinese Wall”, or “Bastille”.

Although the building itself is interesting, the question of whether it can be called the longest in Moscow is controversial. This is because in fact it is a complex of six completely different houses. Not only do they all have different postal addresses (numbered from 8 to 18), they were also built in completely different periods. They combined (“blinded”) several houses together in order to protect residents of the area from harmful electromagnetic radiation arising during experiments at a nearby research institute engaged in the study and testing of high-voltage temperatures.

Moscow is a city of maximum values in everything: population, high cost of living, traffic jams, number of attractions. This also applies to the number of high-rise buildings.

The modern culture of building houses is focused on creating maximum living space while using minimal land resources. Therefore, architects are focused on building skyscrapers. The main rule is that the building must fit succinctly into the surrounding space and be comfortable for residents.

In modern megacities, more and more skyscrapers are growing every year (photos of some of them are presented in this article). After all, they are not just beautiful and stylish, but also compact. They also allow you to save a huge amount of space, which is simply necessary today.

Skyscrapers (photo attached) come in a wide variety of shapes and types. And if previously they were built on the American continent, today these high-rise buildings are conquering more and more Russian cities. An apartment in such a building is expensive and is available only to people with high status and income. In general, skyscrapers are an ideal place for romantic urbanists: a huge city at a glance. And what a view at night!

As you already understood, tall buildings are not uncommon today. But what is the tallest skyscraper in Russia? What kind of building is this and where is it located? This is what remains to be found out now. So, here is a list of the tallest buildings in Russia today.
