Ivan Alekseevich Belousov (December 9 (November 27) 1863, Moscow - January 7, 1930), Russian self-taught poet, writer for children and translator from Ukrainian and Belarusian languages. One of the leaders of the Surikov Literary and Musical Circle.

Biography

Born in Moscow into the family of a peasant artisan.

He began publishing in 1882. His works appeared in the magazines “Bulletin of Europe”, “Russian Wealth”, “Russian Thought” and others. He published the magazines “Put”, “Our Journal”.

Belousov owns a complete translation of “Kobzar” by Taras Shevchenko (the second edition, published in 1919, also included previously banned poems). In addition to Shevchenko, he translated the Italian poetess Ada Negri, the Polish poet Maria Konopnitskaya, and a number of Ukrainian and Belarusian poets. He wrote historical and literary articles and stories for children.

In recent years, he published two books of memoirs - “Literary Moscow” and “Gone Moscow”, where, in particular, he recalled Anton Chekhov, whom he knew personally.

Biography

Secretly from his father, Ivan Belousov wrote poems and published them under a pseudonym in various newspapers and magazines, starting with 1882. His works appeared in the magazines “Bulletin of Europe”, “Russian Wealth”, “Russian Thought”, etc.

In 1899, Belousov took an active part in the creation literary association "Sreda".

He published the magazines “Put” and “Our Journal”.

After the death of his father, on August 18, 1906, the family moved to Sokolinaya street: in 1910-1911 they lived in house No. 18; then, according to the “All Moscow” directories, I. A. Belousov is the owner of houses No. 22 and No. 24.

Belousov owns the complete translation of “Kobzar” Taras Shevchenko(the second edition, published in , also included previously banned poems). In 1927, at the celebration of the 45th anniversary of Belousov’s literary activity, T. I. Shepovalov noted that I. A. Belousov “being one hundred percent Muscovite, did more to popularize T. G. Shevchenko than many so-called generous Ukrainians." Belousov also translated the works of the Italian poetess Ada Negri, Polish - Maria Konopnitskaya, a number of Ukrainian and Belarusian poets.
