The bottom line is that on the night of August 27-28, 2003, Mars was indeed relatively close to Earth - the Great Opposition of Mars took place - we were separated by a distance of 56 million kilometers and Mars shone in the sky as one of the brightest stars ("like" because Mars is not a star, but a planet - this is a big difference) and of course to the eye it seemed like a point object, not at all like the Moon - just a bright point. Nevertheless, some joker spread a “duck” on the Internet that there would be an unprecedented celestial show comparable to the end of the world, and that this would happen once every 284 years... and the “duck” has been flying on annual flights ever since. And people believe - they're just people - "They're not experts"(c) Vladimir Putin.
I have already described in detail that there is no way Mars can be the size of the Moon, even if we all ask it so much. I also explained in detail what would happen if we did interrogate this - it would be bad for us... very much.
Therefore, I will not repeat myself and will simply talk about how Mars will be located in our northern sky on the long-awaited August 27, 2015. I deliberately do not write “as it will be visible,” because Mars will practically not be visible these days, just as it is not visible now - a month before this sacred date of all Rus'.
A publicly available and free program for all types of personal computers, tablets and smartphones, Stellarium (everyone reading these lines should immediately download and install one on their computer, so as not to be fooled by fables from now and forever) reports (and colorfully shows), that on August 27, 2015, several planets of the Solar System will be located in the sky quite close to the Sun, which means they will not be visible, because they rise and set almost simultaneously with the Sun. These are Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter. Three more planets - Saturn, Uranus and Neptune - will be visible in the evening or at night - they are in perfect order. But we are interested in Mars, which is exactly close to the Sun in the sky - located in the constellation adjacent to the Sun (in the constellation Cancer, near the open star cluster "Nursery"), and therefore is lost in the sun's rays.
Strictly speaking, already in the last days of August the period of morning visibility of Mars and Venus will begin. But do not delude yourself - both planets will appear only for a few minutes in the eastern part of the horizon, very low and therefore will be inaccessible to visibility due to the very different types of buildings with which we - residents of large cities - are always littered with the entire horizon. And it is still more optimistic to look for Mars in the morning sky in September.
It is very important for us now to understand how Mars will be located in space in relation to the Earth and the Sun, and how far will it be from it on this magical day?
It is not difficult to guess that if Mars is visible to the side of the Sun, it means that in fact it is much further from us than the daylight. Because the orbit of Mars is located around the Earth’s orbit - Mars orbits the Sun at a greater distance than the Earth and it cannot be between the Earth and the Sun. Only behind the Sun.
So, the same wonderful Stellarium program reports that the Earth and Mars will be separated by a distance of 2.5 astronomical units (1 astronomical unit = the average distance from the Earth to the Sun and ~ 150 million kilometers). This means that Mars will be 375 million kilometers away from us. This is a lot, a lot. This is 1000 times further than the Moon is located. And therefore, Mars certainly cannot be the size of the Moon in the sky.
Indeed, on this day its angular diameter will be less than 4 seconds of arc (astronomers measure the apparent sizes of celestial bodies in degrees, minutes and seconds: in the full circle of the celestial sphere there are 360 degrees, in one degree there are 60 arc minutes, and in one arc minute there are 60 arc minutes seconds). It follows from this that even in a telescope, Mars will be almost point-like - the diameter of the Moon (with which we constantly compare Mars today) can fit 500 Mars. And of course, it’s unlikely that even with the most powerful telescope it will be possible to see anything on the surface of the tiny disk of the red planet - you have to wait a year before Mars approaches the Earth and a confrontation occurs. That's when you need to compare. However, even in the era of opposition, Mars and the Moon will be completely incomparable in apparent size. And the way we imagine Mars is visible only by cameras from space stations that have regularly visited it in recent years.
This August we will all be in for a most interesting celestial phenomenon. The orbit of Mars will come so close to the orbit of the Earth that visually the red planet can be compared in size to the Moon. The inhabitants of the Earth will see such a miracle on the 27th. In clear weather, even without the help of binoculars, a bright point in the sky will be visible, and if you resort to using a telescope, the picture will be absolutely fantastic.
Mars will be only 56 million km from Earth's orbit and will affect our entire planet. It is not for nothing that Mars is named after the god of war. It will bring heavy flows of energy to the Earth: human emotions on this day will be at the peak of tension. You can take advantage of this state of affairs, but only by using this activity only for good deeds. Conspiracies and love spells on this day will be especially strong and effective.
The first time such a phenomenon was noticed was in 2003. Astrologers were greatly shocked by an amazing fact: the red planet was clearly visible in the sky. Before this, this happened long before our era, when our planet was just beginning to emerge. We will be able to see a unique event this August.
