The scientific priorities of the university are physics, biology, medicine, chemistry, geology, mathematics, IT.

NSU provides full educational cycle higher education. The specificity of the university is the system of competitive selection and training of talented youth. NSU is the only university in Siberia that has developed a multi-level model of continuing education.

At the university there is a physics and mathematics boarding school (NSU SSC), in which schoolchildren in grades 9-11 receive specialized education in two fields - physics, mathematics and chemistry and biology. SUSC NSU is one of the best schools in Russia, which is regularly confirmed by the high Unified State Exam scores of its graduates. You can enter the school based on the results of the Summer School (held annually in August), an invitation to which can be obtained by becoming the winner and prize-winner of various subject Olympiads, as well as by successfully graduating from the SUSC Correspondence School.

Olympiads, correspondence schools in various subjects, Winter and Summer schools for applicants and students, training at NSU for bachelors, specialists, master's students, graduate students, doctoral students. While studying at the university, it also provides the opportunity for additional education. All of these are parts of a unified system for selecting and training highly qualified specialists.

80% of NSU teachers are scientists from the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Therefore, education at NSU is closely related to world-class scientific achievements. Students from early years are engaged in scientific research in more than 100 research laboratories equipped with the most modern instruments, as well as in 38 research institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

    Inclusive education

NSU offers equal access to education to all students, including those with severe forms of health limitations: those using wheelchairs, the blind and visually impaired, and those with severe forms of general diseases. The goal of the university is to help people with serious illnesses overcome their limitations and become highly professional specialists capable of withstanding competition in the labor market in the future. For this purpose, the university has an accessible architectural environment, uses modern equipment and software, which give students full access to university and global information and educational resources in adaptive formats.

    Online education

One of the new tasks of the university is to provide open educational resources to everyone using modern technologies. For this, advanced forms of online education are used - MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSES (MOOCs), which include video lectures and tests. By offering its courses to a wide audience online, NSU expands access to quality education for schoolchildren, students, professionals and anyone interested in modern scientific achievements.

    Scientific life

The university is surrounded by research institutes that work in more than 130 scientific fields. This allows NSU students from the very early years to engage in serious - real - science and be part of the scientific community.

In physical and natural sciences, Novosibirsk State University confidently holds the lead among universities in the world. The university's primacy is confirmed by the participation of scientists in international collaborations, as well as the recognition of research results: in 2015, the European Center for Nuclear Research chose the model proposed by scientists from the Institute of Nuclear Physics - NSU graduates and teachers - for the construction of a supercollider.

However, at NSU not only are traditional scientific areas strong, but also new areas are being developed: engineering, instrument making, their own astrophysical school is being formed, and much more. Now the university is showing active growth in publications and citations, and the number of graduate students and the community of young teachers at NSU is growing.

The location of the university in a scientific town creates fertile ground for the development of each student in an intellectual environment, the emergence of new interdisciplinary areas of research, and the integration of intellectual results into business and society.

I have long wanted to write about NSU as it really is. To begin with, I will say that studying there is interesting only for those who live not in real life, but in textbooks. At first, perhaps, studying will be enjoyable, but in the future you will catch yourself thinking: “When will this all end? I’m putting in a lot of effort, but it’s all to no avail. Perhaps this is not for me?” I'll explain. When you just enter NSU, they immediately make it clear to you that lazy people and those who are not particularly gifted...

The university is considered prestigious, so entering it is not very easy. I entered NSU in 2003, when the Unified State Exam did not yet exist, and preparatory courses at the university were considered a prerequisite for admission. For the Faculty of Humanities - far from being as popular as, for example, economics or foreign languages - the competition was about 4 people per place. As a result, 60 people were recruited at the philology department, who were divided into four groups - according to the foreign language they were studying. ...
