Description: In connection with the reform of higher dental education, more attention in teaching began to be paid to the propaedeutics of diseases. In a number medical universities departments of propaedeutics were opened dental diseases. All this requires the creation of a new educational literature on a very important introductory course to the specialty.
In 1999, by the publishing house " Special Literature"(St. Petersburg) the first of three volumes of propaedeutics of orthopedic dentistry was published, which was also the first textbook in Russia on applied materials science. In the third volume it is planned to present issues of technology of devices and prostheses. This volume, which is the second in a row, is devoted to other propaedeutic issues. It included a short applied anatomical and physiological course, sections on diagnostics and symptomatology, a description of the dental office, its equipment, equipment and instruments.
When compiling the textbook “Prosthetic Dentistry. Propaedeutics and the basics of a private course” we were guided by the opinion of famous domestic therapists, academicians V.Kh. Vasilenko and A.L. Myasnikov, authors of textbooks of various years “Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases”. They believed, and we absolutely agree with this, that “the teaching of symptomatology and diagnosis cannot be separated from the teaching of private pathology. There should be no gap between the study of ways and methods of knowledge, on the one hand, and the object of knowledge, on the other.”
In this regard, the main content of the textbook is set out in its title - “Propaedeutics and the Fundamentals of a Private Course.”
Some sections of the book “Orthopedic Dentistry. Propaedeutics and the foundations of a private course” were written with the participation of Honored Scientist of Russia Professor M.M. Solovyov, associate professors V.I. Bulanova, S.B. Ivanova, Candidate of Medical Sciences S.B. Fischeva. Dentist E.G. took part in the design of the illustrative part of the textbook. Ulyanov. We express our sincere gratitude to all of them.
We will be very grateful to our readers for all their comments and friendly criticism towards our textbook, since this will only benefit its quality.

Preface by the authors
Almost 30 years have passed since the publication of the first edition of our textbook (1968), a period quite sufficient for the reader to evaluate the quality of the book. It soon became clear that it had become the main teaching aid on the theory of orthopedics for both students and teachers of dental faculties. The textbook is not offended by the attention of practicing orthopedic dentists. This convinced us that the principle of constructing the textbook, its theoretical level And methodological foundations selected
Right. They are known to be the following:
1. The clinical nature of the presentation of the textbook material, a departure from the technical bias in the study of the subject, which is difficult in orthopedic dentistry.
2. The textbook reflects modern level science, provided for by the program, even gets a little ahead of itself, based on the situation - what is not included in the program today will become an urgent necessity tomorrow.
3. Availability of presentation in good Russian language without the unnecessary use of technical terms and slang expressions that are so common in orthopedic dentistry. Therefore, the textbook is easy to read and accepted by students.
During the preparation of the previous edition of the textbook, the team of authors was expanded. Thus, the title authors included Professor V. N. Trezubov (St. Petersburg) and Professor E. N. Zhulev ( Nizhny Novgorod). Most of the textbook's chapters have been radically revised, and some have been written anew. The structure of the textbook has generally been preserved, but the content of some chapters has changed in accordance with new data from the science and practice of orthopedic dentistry. Special attention given psychological preparation patients to prosthetics, the aesthetics of prosthetics, as well as the reactions of the prosthetic bed to the effects of prostheses. Some terms have been clarified, new classification abnormalities of the jaws, dental arches and individual teeth.
The book is dedicated of blessed memory an outstanding Russian dentist, a condemned figure of science in Russia, Professor Evgeniy Ivanovich Gavrilov, teacher and mentor of the other authors.

Name: Orthopedic dentistry.

For 34 years now, since the first edition of our textbook, it has been the main teaching aid for students, teachers of dental faculties, students medical schools and colleges. It is widely used by dentists and dental technicians.
We believe that its popularity is due to the availability of presentation in literary Russian without jargon, technicalisms and vulgarisms, which fill the vocabulary of dentists and dental technicians. In addition, the textbook is characterized by the clinical and nosological nature of the presentation of the material.

Most of the chapters in this edition of the textbook have been radically revised, and some have been written anew. The structure of the textbook as a whole has been preserved, while the special terminology has been clarified.
When preparing a new edition of the textbook, associate professor L. M. Mishpev (St. Petersburg) was included among the title authors, who took an active part in updating it.
As a result, the team of authors who created the textbook “Orthopedic Dentistry (Propaedeutics and Basics of a Private Course)” /St. Petersburg, 2001/, united again to write the 6th edition of the faculty course of the specialty. The latter involves a description of the classic clinical picture, course and treatment of major dental diseases.
In addition, Candidate of Medicine took part in writing the sections “Functions of the masticatory-speech apparatus” and “Orthodontics”. Sciences S. B. Fishchev and Dr. med. Sciences R. A. Fadeev. Doctor E. G. Ulyanova helped in the design of the textbook. The authors express deep gratitude to all of them.
