Ai.type - Such a free non-free keyboard. Download other useful applications

Almost in the first place, the possibility of installing a keyboard from third party developer. We were no exception, but decided to go a little further and prepare separate material on new applications.

For the Android OS, there are dozens of excellent and hundreds of “tailor-made” keyboards, including those with the iOS keyboard interface, which, by the way, is quite nice. So you can be sure of their speedy implementation on the new platform.

Compared to the native keyboard, third-party ones have some advantages - these are new options, entering text by sliding your finger, saving settings in the “cloud”, a whole bunch of covers, and of course additional characters. Moreover, most of the applications we reviewed necessarily offer an iOS-style cover, so there may not be any special changes in appearance at all.

It’s a pity that keyboards for iOS 7 are not being created - this opportunity appeared only in iOS 8. And as soon as this happened, a lot of questions in the “?” style immediately appeared. And you know, we already have the answer. And then we will talk about nine third-party keyboards for iOS 8. The tenth is the native keyboard that was present in the system initially. It is extremely important to compare the capabilities of others with it. So let's get started.

Native iOS keyboard

To understand whether the game is worth the extra effort, let's first take a closer look at the native keyboard in iOS 8. During testing, we used two languages - Russian and English, so there will definitely be an assessment of the ease of switching between languages.

So, we have an iPhone 4S running iOS, upgraded to version 8.1. The device model is not the most current, but the software tested is the same for both the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 4S. Well, we won’t complain about the phone’s small screen (and, as a result, the inconvenient use of the swype input method). Almost.

Switching between languages, more precisely – Russian and English keyboard– carried out by pressing the button with the image of the “Globe” (hereinafter referred to as the “Globe”). To do this, both languages must be selected in the phone settings (Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > New keyboards > Suggested keyboards).

There are no additional symbols on the “main” keyboard screen (only “e” to “e”). To enter them, you need to go to another screen by pressing “123”. On the same screen we will find a comma.

And the point, as we remember, can be obtained by pressing the spacebar twice if this option is enabled in the settings. In addition, it is possible to use abbreviations. In general, the “native” keyboard has few settings, but in the future we will see that even this set is not found in all third-party applications.

ai.type Keyboard - the best keyboard for iOS 8

While preparing the material, we noticed that new keyboards appear almost every day. For example, ai.type. Keyboard appeared much later than TouchPal or SwiftKey, and at first the application was paid. But soon the developers changed their anger to mercy. So it is possible that within a month after our review the situation on the keyboard market will change dramatically.

So, ai.type Keyboard is our first third-party keyboard for iOS 8. At the time of testing, it offered the widest range of capabilities, so we will consider it a kind of starting point for the rest.

Seven covers are offered - standard iOS, Android and WP interfaces, ai.type Keyboard corporate cover, sketch cover and others. It is possible to use your image as a background.

As you can see, there are additional characters, a lot of them, and a separate line is provided for numbers. Based on my experience of using third-party keyboards, one would notice that the mere presence of this line predetermined the choice of the application. But that would be too subjective.

There are many languages, Russian is present. Switching is done by clicking on “Globe”. Keyboard settings can be called up by tapping the button with a special icon.

Very useful feature- keyboard height adjustment separately for portrait and landscape modes. But there is no text input by sliding, and this is the only omission of the ai.type Keyboard. It’s not that we were fans and campaigned for this particular method, but if there is a demand, it must be satisfied.

In general, the keyboard is quite good and clearly claims to be a favorite among similar applications in the App Store.

I remember a time when a person talking on some kind of PDA looked somehow out of place - all manufacturers were competing for the smallest phone. Sometimes this race simply caused me a culture shock, for example, the Panasonic A100 series, which was terribly inconvenient to use, and where to talk to it always remained a mystery to me.

Some time later, the dimensions of the phones came to some averaged, more or less adequate standard, and the measurement was carried out exclusively by thickness. Here nothing touched me anymore - nothing really touched me, but I never chased after this parameter, and the Sony Ericsson M600 and W350 peacefully coexisted in my pocket. And then something went wrong...

The PDA standard of 3.5 inches has been thrown back. In just a couple of years of racing diagonals, the normal size has become 5 inches. What can I say, every vendor has a model with a mini console and a diagonal of 4.7 inches. I don’t know about anyone, but it’s just very inconvenient for me to use such things - I need them for one hand, and the hands of an ordinary person. But you have to adapt. Today's review is about the central link of any modern smartphone (in in this case on Android OS) - keyboard. So, for me, only three criteria are important: size (the most important thing!), word prediction (not T9, but the next word prediction), classic appearance. It seems that the requests are unpretentious, however, after a year of using five-inchers, I found only one keyboard that was completely suitable for me, although I couldn’t install it - it’s a stock one from Sony ZL.

As a very good alternative, it was installed on my Lenovo S580 Ai.type.

In general, the developer assures us that his keyboard is free. But, as the classic said: “Everyone lies!” So it is here - after the trial period has expired, some of the functions, including word prediction, are safely disabled, and advertising takes their place. To be honest, I’ve been using this cut-up version for two months now - after an extreme flashing, I can’t get around to restoring the purchase, so I’ll start my review with the free version, and after that I’ll return my original one (the money was paid...) .

I will not dwell on the intricacies of installation and activation - the wizard will clearly walk you through two whole steps in the settings.

But I’ll tell you in detail about the settings (this is, in principle, my favorite topic).

These are all our settings! Paradise for a person with a lot of time, strong nerves and irrepressible energy. Although, surprisingly, the developers have placed enormous possibilities into a rather logical and simple concept. It's nice when they care about the consumer...

So, first of all, a small note: the main feature of the application, according to the developer, is complete customization. Everything can be configured, i.e. absolutely everything. Or you can download the topic, and there are more than 50,000 of these topics (yes, fifty thousand, no typo). About 49 and a few thousand kopecks of which are paid or irresponsible...

So, in our main screen, the central place is occupied by the choice of topic, or rather the “Topic of the Day” advertisement - every day, the next new topic becomes free for a short time. As a rule, this is something absurdly bright and clunky, distinguished by the lack of support for the Cyrillic alphabet (which we, of course, learn about only after installing and applying the theme).

But today, just at the time of writing this review, I was lucky - the theme is simple and cool (a variation on the theme of Material Design).

If we're lucky, let's take advantage! You only need two taps, both on the same button, which will change depending on the screen - super simple. So, initially, it is “Load”, and after that it is “Apply”. That's all.

Do you want more topics? The software has them... The shortcut is called “Theme Market”.

Yes, market to all markets, market. Four tabs, each with some buttons and shortcuts...

The first tab is our installed themes. All purchased ones are blocked (well, nothing - not long left), choosing a theme is in one click.

Just click. And that’s all - no buttons “Apply” or “Are you really, really sure that you want to choose this topic, maybe you’ll think again.”

And here, at the ellipsis of each topic, the secret of such a huge number of them is revealed: it turns out that absolutely every user can post their topic on the market within 5-10 seconds! (we’ll also look at how to make themes). By the way, judging by most of the topics, they are posted by, well, “every user.”

The "Back to the Beginning" tab will in no way lead us to the Big Bang or the creation of the World in six days - but will only provide a list of the "best" (in someone's opinion) topics.

Here is the “Download” button, which is already familiar to us, and “My Portfolio” - this is all our posted creativity.

By the way, more than five people downloaded my topic, and someone even gave it a good rating. Hurray, comrades!

"PlayStore" is the name of the adjacent tab. Just a list of topics. When choosing a paid one, he suggests buying the software first, and then the theme. If she likes everything, she will transfer it to Google Play.

You can just as easily search for topics in Google Play:

But "Market" offers us to download/buy a theme from the program, without going to hot spots like Google Play. You can sort something, somehow...

We return to the main screen.

Pay attention to the change in the topic of the day - which is what I was talking about...

In input languages, we simply need to download offline dictionaries, since there is a very large set to choose from. So, we can even write a letter to Thieng Viet (I don’t know where it is, but there is definitely a language like that).

The bottom row of icons on the main screen is kaka! This is an attempt to mislead a potential consumer and make them suffer with a meaningless set! Well, how could you put a “Hot something” button between sending a review, a tutorial and an offer to upgrade (or rather, buy the program)?

And this button is very useful - the essence is simple: you set any arbitrary abbreviation and its decoding (for example, classic RTFM). In my example - "please". Now, when you enter the specified abbreviation, it will be automatically suggested full version- “stop worrying about nonsense and quickly do what I said!!!”

This trick only works in full version, but still...

And now we smoothly come to the settings page(s).

Remember the movie “The Matrix” and there was “no spoon” in it? So, if you understood the logic of this statement on the first try, welcome! If not, it is worth trying to find the spiritual enlightenment of an open mind with an expanded third eye. Otherwise, it’s almost impossible to sort through the clutter of it all!

"Prediction". And it all starts quite simply - with the hot keys that are already familiar to us and all the simple little things that do not require explanation.

For some reason, there is a checkbox for continuous input (in the free version, again, it doesn’t work).

"Hint words" - for a simple phrase and three dots hide another settings field. It's good that everything is clear. Auto-correction - corrects errors, auto-completion - completes the word.

You can complicate things and enable cloud prediction-correction. Everything should seem to get better, although in practice there is practically no difference (or maybe the vocabulary is poor and the standard set easily satisfies my needs). For the paranoid, there is communication encryption.

Backup functions are present. Even to the cloud (in the paid version, of course). Free - only on a memory card.

A long, incomprehensible slider (in general, it is beautiful and neat - I accidentally picked it up while carefully finalizing the firmware with a file) - switching the interface language. It is interesting that “English” in this case is not the current language, but the proposed one.

Well, statistics. I don't often type on my phone, as you can see. And we also see my ID - “IaUBe”, some kind of IaUBe...

That's it, let's go to the "tab" Appearance"These top links lead us to the already seen theme market - everything interesting has already been seen.

"Custom setting of the bottom row" is a necessary thing. So, in addition to the basic settings for displaying all sorts of periods and commas, we can create a number of our own buttons with any of our own entered character sets (I tried two buttons, maybe three. It’s very convenient - with a tap my email address is printed, with a long tap - Zhmail’s) . It would be possible to enter a couple of login/passwords. In short, once you try it, it’s very difficult to imagine the keyboard without such a feature.

By the way, it is created by the “Plus in a circle” button.

A strange inscription in a non-Russian language “Show TrackPoint on keyboard” includes a circle in the center of our keyboard.

If we long-tap on it, we will be asked to choose a direction, and after this our cursor will move in the desired direction. A useful feature on large screens, and useful in principle - I think everyone has encountered oddities in cursor positioning on Android. It seems like you are tapping where you need to, but the cursor is a couple of characters away...

You can safely skip the height items - because the height is very convenient to adjust in another way. What next? But it’s worth remembering the settings: after all, you can fine-tune the height only here.

We omit simple options.

But let's pay attention to interesting fact: the sound of pressing and auto-correction is not only there, we can adjust its volume separately from other system events.

The same applies to vibration - feel free to choose any level.

Well, my favorite is the display of tooltips on the keys - in normal keyboards this is called “display of diacritics,” i.e. characters that are printed using a long tap.

Swipe left to go to the “Make Mine” tab.

That's why I love Android - for its customization, for the fact that I make it convenient for myself and, most importantly, it looks the way I want.

Manufacturers seem to share my opinion - in this tab we can customize absolutely any graphical element of the keyboard: animation, flickering, font, background, size, continuous input track.

Moreover, the colors of special keys are separately configured: spacebar, top row.

And the most interesting thing is that almost all of this is available even in the free version! And now, when we've done all this, we can save the theme and post it for everyone to see and use!

Yes, the sidebar is a quick navigation window between all the items discussed.

And if everything is completely unclear, it also contains a set of video instructions (in English).

Looks like it's set up.

This is what it looks like for me:

Please note that the two “my buttons” are located at the bottom right. One of them is called "login" and contains two emails. It turns out that the button can be named anything at all, without reference to the output data - convenient and useful.

And again, three new icons: the top one changes the horizontal size, the middle one moves it right/left, and the bottom one returns everything as it was.

That's it. Now let's restore the keyboard. The paid version (issue price - 4.20 euros) has the prefix "plus", and the free version is called "free keyboard". It turned out that after flashing the phone, I installed not the purchased version, but the free one, with a month of trial, which during this period was no different from the “flattened” one. And now, the paid editorial office is asking to demolish the free one - there is a conflict of interest...

Having restored the purchase, I activated the emoticon-emoji keyboard (in my time “: - D” was the coolest emoticon, and most people were limited to one bracket in one direction or another. And even then, mostly emotions were conveyed somehow differently.. .).

The tips are correct - she literally learns on the go, analyzes, apparently SMS and email. So it turns out that after entering “Hello”, it suggests writing “how”, and after “doing”. That is, you don’t even need to start writing the word.

Continuous input works. I can’t say anything more about him, because... I really don’t like it, but the words are recognized correctly and, as a rule, what I had in mind is written.

Opinion

The keyboard is comfortable, pleasant and beautiful. What it lacks is simplicity. There are so many settings and possibilities that “set it and forget it” is not even a dream. This is possible, of course, but somehow it’s wrong. But if you struggle a little, adjust it, select colors, you can create a unique and convenient phenomenon. By the way, an interesting application - for “adults” who don’t like smartphones because “everything is small on them and nothing is visible” - you can set the size of the letters to be simply indecent.

What’s good is that a month of trial allows you to really assess the need for this software and your willingness to pay about four euros for it. But even its free edition, in my personal rating, would firmly take first place among all non-stock keyboards, if not for the lack of a dictionary and tips. That's it...

And the traditional one:

Read Helpix - it's interesting here!
