Non-union complex sentences. Everything about the ax and the pot and the branches was icy and burned your fingers.

Non-union complex sentences

Goals:

Be able to establish semantic relationships between simple sentences in conjunction and non-conjunction sentences; determine the semantic relationships between parts of a non-union complex sentence depending on intonation in oral speech, correctly place punctuation marks in the indicated syntactic constructions;

Promote the development of attention, monologue speech;

Cultivate an attentive attitude to the word.

Thick icicles hanging from the roofs melted in the sun, and the drops falling from them hit the ice loudly.

When the thick icicles hanging from the roofs melted in the sun, the drops falling from them hit the ice loudly.

Thick icicles hanging from the roofs melted in the sun; the drops falling from them hit the ice loudly, and the song of spring was sung along all the streets. (M. Prishvin)

Teacher's word

Comparing sentences, the teacher draws students' attention to the extraordinary richness of syntactic synonymy, that is, the ability to convey the same content with different syntactic constructions, which speaks of the enormous possibilities of Russian syntax. At the same time, despite the semantic similarity of these syntactic constructions, there are also differences in the semantic relationships of complex and complex sentences.

Students are asked to identify what these differences are. (Relationships between sentences included in a complex compound are equal; conjunctionAnd emphasizes the sequence of actions taking place; in a complex subordination - unequal, unions give different semantic shades:when, as soon as, barely - temporary,If - condition, because - reason, etc.)

In non-union complex sentences these relationships are expressed less clearly. They depend on the content of the simple ones included in them. In non-union complex sentences, the role of intonation is great, which gives the syntactic structure “life” and dictates the need for certain punctuation marks.

Read the sentences. Will their intonation change depending on the punctuation mark?

The grandmother was angry, the granddaughter did not listen.

The grandmother was angry: her granddaughter did not listen.

The grandmother was angry - the granddaughter did not listen.

(In the first sentence, the intonation is enumerative; it requires a comma. Second sentence: the colon corresponds to a warning intonation with some lowering of the voice in the first sentence. When reading the third sentence, the intonation easily rises in the first sentence and falls in the second.)

Thus, the semantic relationships between sentences in conjunction and non-conjunctive complex sentences are expressed differently. In allied sentences, conjunctions take part in their expression, so semantic relations are more clear, and in non-union sentences, semantic relations are expressed less clearly. The semantic relations in non-union sentences depend on the content of the simple sentences included in them and are expressed in oral speech by intonation, and in writing by various punctuation marks.

The handsome snowdrift, sparkling with blue sparks in the sun, darkened. A thin black coating appeared on it. The snowdrift began to settle, changing shape, became covered with a fragile glass crust, the crust cracked and broke. The snowdrift settled and settled and became small, ugly, all black, and a thin transparent stream flowed from under it.

A stream flowed through the yard, made a channel in the ice and ran out of the gate. And there a wide stream was already flowing, curling over the icy rapids. A small stream flowed into a large stream and rushed with it to the river.

Thick icicles hanging from the roofs melted in the sun, drops falling from them hit the ice loudly, and throughout the streets the drops sang the song of spring.

All this happened during the day. As soon as the sun began to set, the frost would stealthily return: at night it was still the ruler. Streams and streams froze, the drops fell silent.

And the sun did its job like a good worker - protective shields in the fields came out from under the snow, light green winter floods were exposed, and paths appeared along the roads and streets. Before the morning the frost still returns, but its dominion is increasingly short-lived and insignificant, and the living forces, resurrected by the sun, rejoice.

And this can only be expressed in poetry; this does not fit into a play.

Tolya gives up the play she started and writes poetry. They are dedicated to Maryana Fedorovna, but he cannot read them to her: if she raises her eyebrows and remains cold, it will kill him. And she will certainly raise her eyebrows and remain cold, Tolya feels.

The poems repeat the eternal lie, the innocent infant lies of poets. Maryana Feodorovna has straight, blond hair - it’s unclear what kind of golden curls Tolya writes about, overwhelmed with feelings and rhymes. Maryana Fedorovna’s gray eyes are compared either to forget-me-nots, or to cornflowers, or to violets (although it is known that violet color is not inherent in human eyes), then to the azure of the southern seas, which Tolya has never seen (he will see this summer: he has been promised a trip to New Athos)… “You passed, and your blue eyes smiled at me in greeting” - the usual lies, spring delirium, youthful greed!

Iambics, trochees, similes, dots, exclamation marks! Poem after poem, notebook after notebook! Columns of short and long lines are suffocating Tolya, he needs to read them to someone - who? Korostelev, he is young and unmarried, will understand! Having stuffed the notebooks into his jacket pockets, Tolya goes to Korostelev.

Great, honestly! - says Korostelev, having listened. He is not skilled in poetry; everything written in rhyme seems beautiful to him.

The two of them. Tolya reads while standing, Korostelev sits with his legs crossed (“just like Pushkin and Pushchin in the picture!”). After Tolina leaves, Korostelev goes to the window, tugs at the frame - paint falls out, the paper tapes that seal the cracks of the frame tear with a crunch, the stars are black in the sky, a sharp, greedy wind flies into the room...

You're crazy, Mitya. Who opens the windows in March!

Not golden curls, not cornflower blue eyes - straight brown hair, gray eyes - oh my dear, you are my good one, where did I look before, where was I before, there is no other in the world, call me now - he ran for thousands of kilometers at your call!

I can't write poetry. Only once, at school, I wrote a poem about a teacher who gave me a “failure” in arithmetic. Love me without poetry, without silk ties, without outstanding merits, simple, uncomplicated, loving you!

They say: the heart gives news to the heart - it’s not true! If you meet her, she will say: “Hello, Dmitry Korneevich” - and she goes her own way, she will not stop.

Call me, Maryasha.

He lies in his poems, as if he was catching your glances. I do not believe! Not because he’s unworthy of your views - he’s probably worthy, a nice guy, talented, honest, but I don’t believe him, that’s all.

Call me, Maryasha.

I didn't go myself. He was just as afraid to go without being called as Tolya was afraid to read poetry to her. He spent his free evenings with Gorelchenko.

Ivan Nikitich and his wife Anna Sergeevna are hospitable and welcoming. They don’t throw parties, but if a guest comes over, everything that is in the house is served on the table. All sorts of people come in - district workers, collective farmers, teachers, widows of front-line soldiers (Anna Sergeevna works in the district social security office). During the evening, ten people will come, drink a glass of tea, talk about business, report the news and leave, but Korostelev sits with his long legs tucked under the chair so that no one will trip, drinks tea glass after glass and does not want to leave.

“What does intelligence and integrity mean!” - he thinks, listening to Gorelchenko. “What does intelligence mean!” - he thinks, listening to Anna Sergeevna. “What does it mean when there is such respect and attention between husband and wife! - he thinks, watching Gorelchenko and Anna Sergeevna. “When there’s such a relationship, it’s warm in the house and it’s nice to come into the house...” Anna Sergeevna and Ivan Nikitich had both sons killed in the war, their cards are on the table; It is known throughout the city that sometimes at dusk Anna Sergeevna comes to the park, sits on a bench near the obelisk of Alexander Loktev - as if it were the grave of her children - sits and leaves. But neither she nor Ivan Nikitich ever talk to people about their grief, complain, or indulge in painful memories.

Ivan Nikitich is passionate about the railway. According to the five-year plan, a railway line will be built to the town in 1948, and construction work will begin this summer. New opportunities are opening up for the town, for the collective farms, for the entire region! The Chkalov chairman is circling around Ivan Nikitich, the chairman's mustache stands on end with impatience, with sweeping plans, with wild economic dreams. And other people who meet at Gorelchenko’s talk about the station, warehouses, refrigerators, about the asphalt route from the station through the whole city... Grow the town, bloom the town, increase your wealth!

Come on, old-timers,” says Gorelchenko, “come on, local natives, why didn’t you still have a railway, but the Kostrovites did, who can say?

Nobody can tell.

Okay, old-timers, okay, local natives. Listen to a lecture on the history of the city. I dug it up in the region, in the archives. Three quarters of a century ago, they built a road through our region - the then province - and this road, according to the original design, was supposed to pass through our city. But the surrounding landowners balked: we don’t need it, and without that, they say, after the liberation of the peasants, life became unstable, let us at least somehow live in silence, don’t destroy our grandfather’s nests... The landowners were shady people.

They sent a petition to St. Petersburg. The petition has not been preserved in the archives, only traces of it, but it’s a pity: that must have been the work... The landowners here - what, small people, no one would pay attention to their petition, but from a certain Mrs. Lomakina, a local Korobochka, the nephew was at court, an influential person; at my aunt’s request, I put in a word for someone there; fortunately, as they say, it didn’t cost him a penny... The noble petition was respected.

So the road went thirty miles from the city, through the village of Kostrovo. And when they put it into operation, and Kostrovo began to grow by leaps and bounds, and the landowners there began to rent out their plots at exorbitant prices, the guardians of silence howled in their grandfather’s nests! Wow, what have you done! They robbed themselves! And, they say, the root of all evil is the old fool Lomakina and her nephew... They shouted, cursed, then they composed a new petition: we changed our minds, let us have a road, we agree. But there was no response to this message. And the city remained - after all, the administrative center - away from the road...

Gorelchenko tells with liveliness, his eyes squinting with a cheerful smile. Anna Sergeevna looks at her husband affectionately and attentively, and her pale face also smiles...

Korostelev walks home through quiet dark streets. In the warm darkness, invisible drops click. In their knocking there is promise, hope, joy. Korostelev’s heart is full of hope, and it is open to everything good and lofty, this simple heart. Korostelev walks alone, but in each house, behind the locked shutters, he feels the presence of people. And in the fields there are also people, human habitations. And throughout the entire Soviet land there are people with whom I am connected by the same aspirations and deeds: whether fellow students with whom I studied, fellow soldiers with whom shoulder to shoulder I defended everything that is dear in life, or those whom you know firsthand about their great works in factories, in mines, in the field... Maybe they too, on this very night, listen to the sound of drops and smile at their hopes. And in distant Moscow, perhaps, he opened a window, lit a pipe, listened to the patter of drops, the most precious person in the world, the love and glory of the people - Stalin... A huge, huge land all around, a huge, huge spring on earth!

Korostelev makes a detour and walks along Dalnaya Street, past its dark windows.

Sleep, my dear. Your day passed in pure and joyful work, and your dreams must be light and cheerful. And how is it - you lived and lived, and I didn’t think about how you live, what you are like, whether you are good or bad... And suddenly you became close to me forever, and I can no longer bear it if you feel bad - why not I can, why is this happening all of a sudden, how does it work like this?..

This is how it started: I was walking down the street and didn’t think about you at all, and suddenly I saw you standing at the gate. Not alien and proud, like that meeting on the road, but simple and sad. Without stockings, and my hair was falling apart... I looked around, you were looking at me with your eyes...

There is joy in you. You have clarity, and tenderness, and young motherhood, and a woman’s beautiful silence. It's right that you teach little children. Yes, you should be teaching little children! - and the children will grow up good. And it is in such a house, with such shutters, that you should live. And the town - I can’t think of a better place for you. And Seryozha is just the son for such a mother. Everything is right, just right. I love you, Maryasha.

So what's next? Shall I visit you? What if you meet me unkindly - after all, I’ll run away and won’t come again, and that’ll be the end of everything!.. Invite you to the cinema, in a club to twirl with you to the music?.. I don’t want to. Offensive. The feelings are not the same. Allow me to say the most important words right away. And answer: yes, no.

...Like a good worker, the sun tries. The needles of young grass shot out of the ground, the buds on the trees swelled, and in front of the windows of the office, in the hot sun, the first dandelion bloomed boldly.

Lukyanych is getting along with the new boat.

Back in the winter, along a sled track, a huge log was brought to the Subbotinsky house on a specially made sleigh, pulled by three horses. Lukyanych came out of the house, looking dignified, walked around the log, clicked to see if it was dry, and asked:

The same one I chose?

What about Pavel Lukyanych! - said the drivers. - Here is your mark.

Okay, unharness,” said Lukyanych.

The drivers unharnessed their horses and left. The log with the sleigh was left on the street.

The thaw came, the snow melted, the donkey, the donkey and the sleigh with a log. There was spring mud - the sleds settled in the mud. It rained, the frost hit, the sun was warm - the log got wet, became covered with an ice crust, thawed, and dried in the breeze.

When the mud dried up, Lukyanych got to work. Coming home from the state farm, he puts on old trousers and a sweater and goes to his log. The log must be planed, hollowed out, ground, and tarred. Enough work for the whole spring.

Aunt Pasha sits on a bench at the gate and watches her husband work. She finished all her work for today, her hour of rest has come. If only we could relax together: two old men would sit down and talk amicably... You'll talk! When, that’s right, his wife is free, you see how he began to work! Chips are flying, an ax is knocking, a plane is rustling, you are covered in sweat - have you seen a Stakhanovite?

Aunt Pasha wants to say something offensive to him.

“I’m surprised,” she says, when he finally stops to rest and the ax falls silent, “who among the Chkalovites gave you such a log?” Probably illegal. Probably as soon as it is discovered, he will go under investigation.

You will go under investigation,” notes Lukyanych. - For slander. This is my fee for the beauty of balance.

You can cut firewood out of it,” says Aunt Pasha. - Six cubic meters, right. Or won't it be six? Everything would be for life, for business, and not for stupidity.

If you were entrusted with management,” says Lukyanych, “you would cut down houses, ships, and factories for firewood.”

I suppose when I was young, you used to sit with me the whole evening.

And I myself was young and stupid, so I sat the whole evening without anything to do.

Either you have overtime, or you are busy with collective farms. Not enough salary, or what? It’s all greed - where else can you get a hundred...

“I’m a sinful man,” says Lukyanych, “I love to work, I love to earn money, I love to have a full cup in the house.”

“You loved me,” says Aunt Pasha, feeling sad. - And I loved you.

Indeed, such a thing happened.

And what a darling I was! What a swan I am for you! I remember how I got dressed for the fair when I first met you. The skirt is green, trimmed with braid, and the jacket is Chinese muslin, there is a frill on the sleeves in four rows, and a cherry ribbon in the braid...

Where's that tape? - asks Lukyanych. - I asked you for it then as a souvenir. Didn't you come across her?

Rude, right rude. Scarecrow. He doesn't remember anything. I have that tape hidden. With wedding candles.

Oh, you're the one who hid it. Show it to me sometime.

That’s how I lived my whole life with a rude guy who doesn’t remember. Something to sit, drink tea slowly, talk, reminisce...

You see, Pashenka, there is a difference in psychology, male and female. A woman, having lost her youth, is mainly interested in remembering. And a man, if he is a real man, is an eagle in his old age. He has work, political position, and noble sport in his sights.

Eagle. What an athlete, look at him. He blocked the entire street with logs. The drivers are swearing that the passage is closed. Sport.

However, that’s enough, perhaps,” says Lukyanych. - We talked, reminisced - time to work.

And he takes up the plane.

This conversation began twenty years ago. They conduct it in a low voice, coolly, and kindly. If on some day the conversation did not take place, both would be bored and sad.

Time for sowing and weddings. The foundations of new families and new buildings are being laid.

We will repair two drying kilns that were out of order during the war, and we will increase the production of bricks to two million pieces. We will build new stables on all farms. The plant manager sent rails, we are mechanizing the removal of manure from the farmyards: we will lay rails from the farmyards to the fields and launch trolleys. Almazov makes trolleys in his workshop. This man turned out to be Tosin’s husband! He needs to be promoted to superintendent. It's growing before our eyes. How he taught the young! He instantly understands every matter related to construction. People have already heard about him; young people who want to learn carpentry and carpentry are asking to become his students.

Hammers are knocking in the regional center: two streets are being paved, Kommunisticheskaya and Pervomaiskaya. New, streamlined buses will run along these streets, and a new garage is being built for them. The power plant is located in the woods, undergoing major repairs. They say they will bring a new engine, there will be enough power for the entire region - put up poles and pull the wire wherever you want. Gorelchenko walks around the city, squinting his eyes, joking, purring a song: “And we are going to the green garden, to dig a little garden.”

We are waiting for the machine promised by Danilov. A machine for making tiles, and the restless chairman of the Chkalov collective farm already appeared on our horizon. I sat in Korostelev’s office, playing with my fingers on the table: “A tile for you, a tile for us.” No, dear comrade. I remember how you treated us last year. This is not how it works between people.

They are painfully vindictive, are they really completely satisfied with the workforce?

There it is completely, not completely, but we also have our own ambition.

Ambition, you know, cannot move production forward. We now have our own brick, that’s the thing, we ourselves needed qualified people, and through this they took our people. But we don’t have tiles, but we need tiles. I put my ambition in my pocket and came with a bow. The collective farm is in first place for me, and ambition is in tenth, and I think it’s the same for you... Eh, Comrade Korostelev, after all, we serve one cause - the fortress and power of our native state.

Getting excited, Korostelev signed the contract. Chkalov's chairman knows how to persuade people. No worse than Grechka.

Spring, salty sweat, plans, aspirations. “Cuckoo! Ku-ku! - the cuckoo across the river cries a thousand times in a row. Even Ikonnikov perked up, it seems to him that he is brave, witty, irresistible, that not today or tomorrow he will explain himself to Maryana Fedorovna... It’s a joke, he cannot sleep thinking about her.

If only he knew how tired Maryana Fedorovna was of him. Oh, worse than bitter radish. As soon as she sees his handsome, solidly approaching figure through the window, Maryana experiences a melancholy feeling: she’s dragging along again, boredom again for the whole evening!

In love, not in love - it doesn’t matter in the slightest now. She can’t love him - that’s the thing, under no circumstances can she! She's bored, hard, unbearable with him.

But how can I tell him, an elderly, important man, about this? How to make it clear so that he doesn’t go again, that they won’t be able to have any friendship?

Innokenty Vladimirovich, excuse me,” says Maryana, horrified by her indelicacy, “I have a lot of student notebooks, I have to check...

Oh please! - says Ikonnikov, as if he was overjoyed (because, in essence, they have nothing to talk about, all the incidents from life have been told, all the books and films have been discussed). - Please, I’ll sit here next to you, won’t it interfere?

And he sits. Reading a newspaper or simply moving his colorless eyes, thinking about something.

Maryana checks the notebooks as slowly as possible, checking each notebook twice so as not to talk to him. But no matter how hard you try, this activity won’t last long - what kind of work do the kids have in the first grade! Maryana gets up, smiling a pale, forced smile, and then Aunt Pasha brings in the samovar and invites Ikonnikov to the table.

A little more, and Maryanino’s patience would have snapped. And a reserved, shy, intelligent teacher would have kicked Ikonnikov out, just as the unrestrained and unintelligent cardboard maker, his wife, once kicked him out. But before this happened, other forces intervened.

It looks like,” Lukyanych said to Nastasya Petrovna, “that we’ll soon be walking at Maryasha’s wedding, very similar.”

Is everyone walking? - asked Nastasya Petrovna.

To put it bluntly, he became more frequent.

And Maryasha?

Who knows. Doesn't drive. The female soul is an abyss. We notice that he seems sad... Why are you looking at me like that, Nastasya Petrovna?

Why are you looking at me, Pavel Lukyanovich?

You and I have no right to put pressure on her psyche.

Of course, it’s up to her to decide, she’s an independent person...

And what can we say about him that is compromising?

In the evening, at home, Nastasya Petrovna said to her son:

Anemic. I was going to get married.

Which one is anemic?

Innokenty Vladimirovich.

Look, you. On whom?

On Maryash.

Korostelev did not immediately understand.

How is it on Maryash?

Yes, that's it. On her. Oh, I don't know. As if the person is not thin, but his soul is not lying...

Korostelev listened with a stony face, motionless staring at his mother. Suddenly he stood up, took his overcoat off the nail, got dressed, and went out without saying a word. “Strange Mitya,” thought Nastasya Petrovna, not understanding anything, “after all, Maryasha is not a stranger to us...”

And Korostelev went to Maryana. A sudden, angry determination lifted him up and drove him on. He didn’t have a plan of action - just be on the spot, see for himself, intervene!

In the middle of Dalnyaya, in the light of the moon, Lukyanych was working on his canoe. The wood chips and shavings, thickly scattered around, turned white under the moon.

You to me?

No, said Korostelev. - To Maryana.

He jerked open the gate and knocked loudly on the back door. Aunt Pasha came out.

Mitya! - she said. - We're not locked, come in. I got ready by force!

Maryana and Ikonnikov were in the dining room. A samovar on the table, cups and saucers, pretzels... “Just like a family.” Maryana quickly turned her head towards Korostelev’s voice, her face flushed red. Ikonnikov was also confused. “Look, what a shy boy.”

Hello, Dmitry Korneevich.

Seagull, Mitya.

I drank, I don’t want to. How are you living?

Aunt Pasha with simple-minded readiness began to report on how she lived. Korostelev looked at Ikonnikov’s stern, regular face, at his white eyebrows, at his white hand with lifeless, straight, ruler-like fingers holding a spoon... “He put his little finger away, like a young lady. He lowered his eyes. Is he embarrassed that he was found here?” Maryana was sewing something, her head bowed low. “Is it really already decided? Is it really the bride and groom? Ikonnikov extended his hand and took the pretzel. “He feels like a master here. Over her, over Seryozhka, this man will be the master, who doesn’t give a damn about everyone and everything... Fish blood, a soulless slug, which you can’t even grab, your fingers slip off...”

Where is Seryozha? - Korostelev asked inappropriately, interrupting Aunt Pasha.

It turned out that Seryozha had been sleeping for a long time.

No wonder,” Ikonnikov noted with a smile. - It's already twelve o'clock.

Yes,” said Korostelev, “it’s late, it’s late.”

Maryana raised her head, looked at him, then at Ikonnikov. A sweet, sly smile flashed in her eyes. I would kiss her for that smile! Aunt Pasha, dissatisfied with being interrupted, resumed her report. Maryana lowered her head even lower, a smile danced around her lips. Why are you laughing, my joy, that you are having so much fun, I have a lump in my throat, but you are laughing! Are you really laughing at me, do you really love him? But there’s nothing to love, take a good look!

Ikonnikov looked at his watch and said: “Wow!” Korostelev sat rigidly. Ikonnikov stood up with a dissatisfied look.

Let’s go together,” said Korostelev.

Maryana accompanied them to the door. Korostelev let Ikonnikov go ahead, closed the door and said:

Maryasha, if you want the best for yourself and Seryozha, this man should not be here.

She stood with her face trustingly raised to him, with joyful fear in her eyes.

He loves nothing, is a coward and an egoist. Drive in the neck. Do you hear?

And he ran after Ikonnikov.

Lukyanych shouted something after him, but Korostelev didn’t hear and didn’t look back. He couldn't wait to catch up with Ikonnikov. He looked back at his steps expectantly.

This is what I wanted... - said Korostelev. - I wanted to tell you to forget the way to this street.

I don’t understand,” said Ikonnikov.

Do not understand. Okay, let me clarify: forget the way to this house. I can still trust you with cows, but no more than cows.

Allow me. You are speaking inappropriately rudely.

Don't care. As he said, so he said. I can’t write poetry... And I’m not as a director, but as a private person, so it’s useless to write an application to the trust. Bye.

He walked away with the air of a man who had accomplished a difficult and important task.

Ikonnikov looked after him, collected his thoughts and laughed with a loud, artificial, theatrically condescending laugh:

Ha ha ha.

Having reached the turn, Korostelev looked back at her house. The corner window glowed softly through the curtain...

I don't want you to be there, but I'm here. I want it together, Maryasha.

Oh, the wind is sweet and piercing, blowing from the vast expanses, black fields and starry skies. Silence full of promises. An eternal, tender, triumphant song of spring.
