June 11th were announced Unified State Examination results in Russian language. As noted by the Ministry of Education, the average exam score has become higher, and this was also due to improved qualifications of teachers.

The average test score for the Unified State Exam in Russian in 2015 was 65.8, which is 3.3 higher than last year. Compared to 2014, the number of examinees who scored more than 80 points increased by 5 percent. For those who failed to score the minimum number of points, a retake is provided on June 22 or in September if these graduates have satisfactory knowledge of mathematics.

According to Dmitry Livanov, the exam model changed in 2015. It did not use tasks where you need to choose an answer, and the main exercise was working with text. The Minister of Education also attributes the improvement in the exam to the introduction of a compulsory essay, which all eleventh-graders wrote in December 2014. In preparation for the essay, schoolchildren studied a large number of classic works of literature, which made a significant contribution to the success of passing the exam.

Dmitry Livanov noted that this year three times fewer violations were registered at exam sites than last year. We also managed to avoid Unified State Exam tourism and ticket leaks on the Internet.

Since the beginning of the Unified State Exam 2015 campaign, 537 papers have been canceled: 328 for using mobile phones, 209 for cheat sheets. About 2 thousand phones were confiscated from schoolchildren before exams after graduates passed through metal detectors.

Despite the fact that the Unified State Examination results in the Russian language have improved compared to last year, in general the level of language and speech literacy of school graduates and the population as a whole remains low. In this regard, teachers, parents and the public of the country are sounding the alarm, calling on the state to take measures to correct the situation.

The state must take further steps aimed at improving the quality of teaching the Russian language in schools and training teachers of the Russian language and literature. It is also necessary to create a basic textbook on the Russian language and restore a system of continuous professional development for university teachers on the basis of the country's leading universities. The Federation Council is ready to support relevant initiatives of federal and regional authorities, as well as civil society structures.

The main wave of passing the 2018 Unified State Examinations has begun. Graduates take exams in compulsory disciplines and elective subjects and look forward to their preliminary results. One of the most expected results is in the Russian language discipline, an exam in which, along with mathematics, is mandatory for everyone. In 2017, 628 thousand graduates took the Unified State Exam in Russian. An exciting time has come for eleventh grade graduates - they are getting acquainted with the results of the Unified State Exam 2017 in the main compulsory subject - the Russian language. Let us remind you that graduates, for whom school will very soon be a thing of the past, took this exam on June 9. It should be noted that about 628 thousand people submitted applications to participate in it during the main period, and 5.4 thousand examination points were used both in Russia and abroad to take the exam.

This year, Rosobrnadzor announced the results of the Unified State Examination in the Russian language five days earlier, that is, on June 22, which was announced by the head of the department, Sergei Kravtsov, at a press conference the day before on Monday. Previously, it was planned that the exam results would be known on the 27th.

According to data from the regions, the exam took place as usual. There are no leaks of control measuring materials on the Internet, noted the head of Rosobrnadzor.

The average score on the Unified State Exam in Russian in 2017 is comparable to last year’s result. As the press service of Rosobrnadzor reported in 2017, 0.5% of Unified State Examination participants in the Russian language did not overcome the minimum threshold for obtaining a certificate of 24 points.

“The Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science has summed up the preliminary results of the Unified State Examination in the Russian language, which was held during the main exam period on June 9. Almost 617 thousand people took part in the exam. The minimum threshold for obtaining a certificate of 24 points was not overcome by 0.5% of exam participants (in 2016 their number was 1%),” the message says.

The press service also emphasized that the average score on the Unified State Exam in Russian in 2017 is comparable to last year’s result.

“This year the trend towards improving results in compulsory subjects continues. The share of graduates who were left without certificates decreased by almost one and a half times, and this does not even take into account the results of upcoming retakes. These results indicate the success of the “I will pass the Unified State Exam” project and are the result of serious targeted work that was carried out with lagging schoolchildren in regions and municipalities, where the Unified State Exam results of previous years revealed serious problems with the level of school education,” the press service quotes the head of Rosobrnadzor Sergei Kravtsov.

Graduates of previous years and schoolchildren who received an unsatisfactory result in one of the compulsory subjects will be able to take the exams during the reserve period.

The results have been announced, we are waiting for official statistics on Unified State Examination results in Russian language 2017. And many sites are already celebrating: the number of graduates who did not score the minimum number of points this year is significantly lower than in previous years. In general, if you suggest circling the vowels, reading not syllable by syllable and simply retelling the text in your own words, the results will exceed all expectations. I don’t understand why this can’t be done for a beautiful report. The exam becomes simpler and simpler, the teacher’s demands become lower and lower, and we fly into this funnel. We fly away unnoticed by non-professionals, because only those who constantly prepare for the Unified State Exam can track how the test part is simplified.

But that's not what I'm talking about now.

Why did we part with the quality of education? Everyone remembers: for the sake of justice. So that students from the outback have equal rights when entering large universities, so that it is not the university bigwigs who take bribes, but someone else, so that no one takes bribes. But as a result, universities had to lower the level of education so much that, I think, it would be better for the bribe-takers to remain there.

This is my opinion. It's controversial. And I don't want to get into this debate. Because that’s not what I’m talking about now.

This is me slowly approaching my sad conclusion about justice. More precisely, about its absence. Unfortunately, the criteria for assessing essays forced children to get used to one template of a statement (which, by the way, is not suitable for all proposed texts) and did not give experts the opportunity to evaluate essays objectively. Over the past few days, I have had the opportunity to look at scans of many works and get acquainted with expert assessments. Graduates, for various reasons, wanted to receive an independent assessment. These were students from different cities and from schools of different levels. And their abilities, judging by their writings, are also different. And the scores are approximately the same: everything is in the range from 14 to 20. The weak were clearly pulled out, the strong were assessed too strictly. And I saw strong essays with lower scores than weak ones. I think it goes something like this. Good schools have their own USE experts. Real professionals, they keep their mark, teaching children properly, and then ask them strictly. Of course, you cannot check the work of your class, but a strong teacher, checking the work of strong children, will in any case deduct points from those who wrote a little worse. The work of weak classes of weak schools, which often do not have their own experts, is taken away for checking by unfortunate inspectors sitting somewhere in other schools. And if, among the mass of dull, monotonous weak works, some kind of “like, nothing” appears, then the points begin to be tightened. Well, someone needs to be rated higher.

Let's take two students with their essays. The examples are fictitious, these are generalized images.
The worst of the best. A fairly capable student in the humanities class of the gymnasium with a good, logical essay, with literary examples. He gets a low score because... looks modest compared to the background of talented classmates who are going to philology departments.
The best of the worst. A student from a school where they did not try to teach, but only monitored discipline so that children did not walk on the walls and did not burn fires during lessons. And there are also 3/4 classes with a non-native Russian. After failing the sample, the parents decided to hire a tutor, who, within a year, taught this graduate to read not syllable by syllable and highlight at least some idea in the text. A student who created an Unified State Exam essay from template phrases and fictitious arguments. He gets a high score because compared to those who couldn't do even that, he's a superstar.

And these two students take their results to universities and become competitors for admission. Grayness wins. And there is no justice here. One commission should objectively compare the levels of graduates. I think that the funds spent on security during the Unified State Examination would be quite enough to organize similar surveillance of work in universities.

In general, we threw out the baby with the bathwater. There is no justice, no previous level of education. This is the real result of the Unified State Exam 2017.
